In a recent Vlog Views interview with D S Simon Productions, Trylon SMR President Lloyd Trufelman cautioned against the current trend of seeing social media as the single "magic bullet" for marketing and communications campaigns. Marketers today are buying into the social phenomenon and going all in on one form of communication, believing that it alone can propel image recognition and brand growth.


A recent post at Campaigns & Elections boldly stated that politicians should eschew traditional print news media for social and direct communication channels going forward. It was pointed out that most campaigns still spend an inordinate amount of money and resources on newspaper editors and reporters when in fact unfortunately there is little demand anymore from that medium for substantive local political stories.


Between Google Goggles, Oculus Rift and Microsoft’s new HoloLens, we no longer need to look at a screen to view computer programs, the Internet, or other applications. According to a recent article in the New York Times, by the late media critic David Carr, our society seems to be embracing the technology trend of becoming more engrossed with the virtual world than the real one.
